For the last twenty years, since my first visit to Africa and every year since, I have been captivated by Elephants.
Not only because of their known wisdom and intelligence over centuries but as a painter of shapes they make against the landscape and their colours in different habitats: Murram red, yellow ochre, dusty pink and Burnt Siena and even Indigo Blue (I have never painted a grey Elephant) and those tiny amber eyes, with their long untidy eyelashes, that appear to know all and probably do.
Now I paint in the calm of the Sienese countryside in a very small, studio snug in the winter and rather too hot in the summer, but elephants (on canvas) have streamed out of this ‘shoebox studio’.
I now have a selection of archival prints on canvas available for purchase in the online shop.
20% of proceeds of the sales of all prints will be donated to Born Free for elephant projects in Amboseli, Kenya.
